 The purpose of scientometrics is to evaluate the latest advances in scientific and research activities in Iranian medical sciences in each scientific direction and the factors affecting its growth. Scientometrics can be a useful and efficient element for officials and planners to manage financial and human resources with the highest efficiency. In addition to measuring scientific research and production, scientometrics evaluates and determines management criteria such as budget, status, and efficiency of universities and scientific centers.

   Accordingly, the most important goals of the Scientometrics Unit of Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences are:

1. Establishing a platform and guiding the university's research activities
2. Improving the quantity and quality of the university's scientific and technological products
3. Improving the scientific status of the university
4. Monitoring the university's scientific and technological products
5. Evaluating university researchers using scientometric indicators
6. Extracting scientometric indicators at different levels for use in encouraging, promoting, and evaluating the research performance of university researchers
7. Providing advice to respected members of the faculty and graduate students about reputable scientific journals indexed in national and international citation databases for publishing articles, familiarizing themselves with various international indicators, etc.
8. Trying to index the university's scientific journals in reputable international indexes such as ISI and Scopus in accordance with the goals of the country's comprehensive scientific map
9. Measuring and evaluating scientific and technological innovations at the university
10. Studying to define and compile new indicators in scientometrics at the national and international levels of published scientific reports
11. Explaining the process of science production and the efficiency of scientific research University

   The above objectives are intended to guide the university's scientific and research planners and policymakers in order to improve the ranking of Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences.   

Description of the Scientometrics Department’s Duties 

   The Scientometrics Department of Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences pursues the following duties to achieve its goals:

• To achieve its goals, the Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences Scientometrics Department pursues the following tasks:

• • Continuously completing and updating the information of faculty members in the ISID scientometrics system
• • Informing, advertising, training and promoting the use of the faculty members' scientometrics system
• • Correcting, integrating and editing the information of faculty members and their and the university's articles in databases
• • Preparing, publishing and distributing periodic scientometric reports of faculty members and the university
• • Monitoring the scientific production of faculty members at the level of faculties and educational groups and publishing their results
• • Holding scientometrics workshops and training courses for faculty members and university researchers 
• • Continuously informing about the correct and complete way of addressing the university's name in articles • Introducing and informing about discredited and low-reputation journals to faculty members and university researchers
• • Introducing reputable journals and implementing training programs to guide university publications to the aforementioned journals
• • Continuous monitoring of the university's knowledge, research, and technology production and providing operational feedback to improve university output
• • Monitoring the university's national and international ranking in international ranking systems and providing necessary measures to improve it
• • Efforts to improve the visibility and citation of university published articles in the world 
• • Designing and implementing research projects and scientometric studies with the aim of quantitatively and qualitatively improving the university's scientific output
• • Active participation in scientometric programs designed for ten national and regional regions
• • Active cooperation and interaction with the Ministry of Health's scientometric working group
• • Identifying factors affecting the research output of university faculty members with the aim of providing necessary solutions to improve research output and eliminate existing problems and obstacles
• • Holding meetings with the presence of university officials and top researchers in order to select practical, effective, and appropriate policies and solutions to qualitatively and quantitatively improve the research output of university faculty members and researchers.
• • Preparing a continuous report on the current status, growth rate and factors affecting research output to the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Technology of the University
• • Providing documented reports on the scientific and research status of the University, as well as introducing outstanding researchers with significant growth to the Scientometrics Unit of the Vice-Chancellor for Research and Technology of the Ministry of Health and Medical Education for encouragement and introduction at the national level.
• • Holding educational workshops and scientific lectures to empower respected members of the faculty, researchers, students, managers and experts in the field of scientometrics basics and concepts
• • Compiling a report on the University's scientific production in different time periods in reputable citation databases Introducing highly cited and outstanding articles and researchers of the University in reputable citation databases
